Exodus & Jonathan Edwards
Two weeks ago I introduced our final sermon in Exodus with a story of my journey of appreciation for Jonathan Edwards. Several people approached me throughout the weekend services asking general questions about Edwards and what books I might point them to. If you have one book to read other than the Bible this year I could not encourage you enough to consider reading some Edwards. Here are three places to start:
The Unwavering Resolve of Jonathan Edwards by Steven J. Lawson – Steve Lawson clearly and succinctly (only 170 pages!) details Edwards’ passion and pursuit of God’s glory. This is an excellent primer to the life and spirituality of Edwards.
Jonathan Edwards: America’s Evangelical by Philip F. Gura – If you are looking for a more detailed (304 pages) look into the life and times of Edwards this is a good place to start.
Jonathan Edwards: A Life by George Marsden – This is the book that sparked my pursuit of Edwards. It is indeed long (640 pages), but if you are up for the challenge, dive in!
